Safety Guardrails: Discovery
Safety Guardrails define boundaries that must be respected for a Hero to remain in a learner-driven community and the requirements to earn acceptance back into the community.
In the Spark and Discovery Studios, the Strike System protects the safety of each Eagle. A strike may be given by Guides (and eventually Eagles) for crossing a Guardrail or having a -3 Eagle Buck balance. An Eagle with three Strikes is sent home for the day to reset; an Eagle with three resets in one year is not invited back to Acton but may re-apply, either immediately or after a cooling off period. (See Strike System page for more details)

Guardrail #1:
Don't hurt others.

Guardrail #2:
Don't hurt yourself.

Guardrail #3:
Use things they way they are designed to be used.

Guardrail #4:
Respect other people's work and property.

Over the course of the Session and Year, we'll be holding each other accountable using these 4 simple guardrails. We will continue to develop and refine them as needed as we evolve as a powerful, world-class learning community.
Choosing to Leave
When a learner chooses to repeatedly cross these guardrails, it is considered a choice to leave the community. If your learner is not yet ready to commit to staying within these 4 simple guardrails on an ongoing basis, they will be unable to continue to be a part of the community. Should they choose to leave the community, if after reapplying they are invited to enroll again, we will celebrate their return and their choice to recommit to these boundaries!
